HAVERHILL – HC Media, the public access television center serving the city of Haverhill, MA, has been named the Best Access Center in the Northeast in its budgetary category by the Alliance for Community Media. The Alliance for Community Media is a national organization representing the community media industry; the Northeast chapter includes the states of Massachusetts, New York, Connecticut, Vermont, Maine and New Hampshire.
HC Media Executive Director Darlene Beal said, “ HC Media staff and volunteers have worked hard these past few years to raise HC Media’s profile in the community and in our industry. We now offer more services and an expanded training program, have formed lasting community partnerships, and launched a radio station while continuously delivering quality programming and excellent service to our hometown. This is a recognition we can all be proud of.”
Judging for the Best Access Center category is based on a variety of factors, including excellence in programming, community outreach, development of innovative concepts and more. Each year, hundreds of access centers enter this competition for a chance to be recognized by their peers for outstanding work. Haverhill Community Media beat out larger access centers from New York City, Boston and other metropolitan areas to take home the prize this year, based on its exceptional performance in 2015 for Haverhill and its residents.
In addition, HC Media’s flagship program, The Haverhill Journal, was awarded First Place in the News & Magazine category. The Haverhill Journal is a biweekly, 15-minute newsmagazine that explores the most fascinating stories happening in the Merrimack Valley. One of the most prominent and widely-entered categories in the competition, the News & Magazine Program award is another testament to HC Media’s high standard of excellence.
“We are thrilled to have the Haverhill Journal honored with this award. Our goal at the Journal is to highlight the people, places and events that make Haverhill a wonderful place to live, and winning Best News Program confirms that goal is being achieved”, said Haverhill Community Media News Producer Lindsay Paris.
The ACM-NE will present the Best Access Center and Best News & Magazine Program awards to Haverhill Community Media at its 18th Annual Video Awards Ceremony on Saturday, October 22, 2016 at Mechanics Hall in Portland, ME.
